Job Overview
Fort Bend County Library is seeking a part‑time Library Support Specialist to assist with patron services, circulation, and collection management. The role requires flexible evening and weekend hours and is part of the county’s library system.
Responsibilities- Respond to patron inquiries by phone and in person.
- Check out, check in, and charge library materials using the automated system.
- Shelve and maintain order of library materials.
- Receive, sort, and process delivery items and prepare items for the hold shelf.
- Reroute circulation materials to other branches.
- Register new patrons and issue library cards.
- Collect fines and fees.
- Attend staff meetings, staff development days, committee meetings, and training sessions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Optionally order supplies, process periodicals, mend and clean books or AV items, order and receive library materials/check invoices, update holdings, process mail, and perform database maintenance.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong computer and typing skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact easily with staff and the public.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions.
- Availability for evening and weekend hours.
Part‑time: $15.30 per hour, 24 hours per week.
Physical DemandsAbility to bend, stoop, reach, stand, talk, listen, lift materials up to 25 lbs. on a daily basis; occasional sitting. Requires good vision, color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus.
