Social-Emotional Counselor (20 Hours/Week)- Bastrop TX
Overview
:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Part-Time Counselor to join our team and support the emotional, social, and academic well-being of our PK-9th Grade students. This flexible position requires a total commitment of 20 hours per week, which may be scheduled as either 4 hours per day, five days per week, or 6–7 hours per day, three days per week, depending on counselor availability and campus needs.
The ideal candidate will bring expertise in counseling practices, a strong commitment to student success, and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and the broader school community. Candidates must hold a master’s degree from an institution of higher education accredited by an agency recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and possess a valid Texas counselor license—LPC-I, LPC, LPC-S, LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, or TEA School Counselor Certification.
- have accomplished professional experience in either of the following settings: PK-12 schools, early childhood, out-of-school time programs
- hold a master’s degree from an institution of higher education that is accredited by an agency recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
- hold a valid Texas counselor license (LPC-I, LPC, LPC-S, LMSW, LCSW, LMFT or TEA School Counselor Certification
- Abide by COVID policies in place at the time of employment.
- Average salary is between $40-45 and varies based on experience
As the Social-Emotional Counselor, you have unique training to help scholars with social-emotional challenges that impact academic success. You will utilize your leadership, advocacy and collaborative skills to provide preventative services and respond to student social and emotional needs so barriers to academic success can be removed. You will do this through the development of a school counseling curriculum, deliver small-group counseling, and provide appraisal and advice directed at improving a student's social-emotional well-being.
Your leadership will promote a positive, culturally responsive, restorative justice environment that enhances students’ ability to properly manage the social-emotional demands of their lives.
Leadership
- Assist in the formulation of campus goals and objectives addressing the social-emotional needs of students and the removal of barriers to their academic success
- Plan, participate, and/or lead professional development sessions for teachers in the social-emotional aspects of students
- Coordinate school-wide programs that recognize positive student behavior and restorative practices
- Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission, core values, and core habits of the school district
- Maintain prompt redirection of student behavior and uphold the behavioral expectations school-wide
- Collect and analyze data to determine student and program needs and program goals for the continuous improvement of a balanced comprehensive school counseling program
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required
- Provide group guidance and social skills activities for student related to topics such as self-awareness, bullying prevention, and social awareness
- Facilitate learners’ ability to achieve their potential by helping them set and attain challenging social-emotional goals
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide the school counseling curriculum to all students
- Serve as a referral source for students when social-emotional challenges are escalated
- Provide crisis management intervention and response
- Facilitate student and family access to community resources
- Facilitate parent information and support groups as needed
- Participate in IEP and ARD meetings to facilitate communication regarding student needs where appropriate
- Identify and employ appropriate appraisal methods for individual and group interventions that support social-emotional development
- Advocates for a school environment in which diversity and inclusion is acknowledged and respected, resulting in positive interactions across all demographics
- Understands learner styles including those related to cultural background, gender, ethnicity, and ways of learning
- Create and maintain a positive school environment that is responsive to all learners
