Position: CDOC State Teacher I - Culinary Arts Instructor (Sterling)
Location: Sterling City

Job

Duties Include:
  • Teach and mentor inmate students individually or in small and large group classrooms, promoting occupational, academic and transitional performance skills;
  • Determine educational needs of inmate students to develop short‑ and long‑term goals;
  • Plan course content and develop methods of instruction;
  • Develop and implement competency‑based teaching aids such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, or study materials;
  • Provide hands‑on training to teach and demonstrate skills, techniques, methods and procedures;
  • Lecture on culinary theories, concepts, principles, and terminology;
  • Select and administer appropriate oral, written and/or performance assessments to measure progress, course completion requirements, and evaluate training/testing effectiveness;
  • Ensure security, supervision and monitoring of inmate students, the storage and inventory of culinary tools, equipment, keys and hazardous material in accordance with CDOC regulations;
  • Ensure tools and equipment are in proper working condition;
  • Prepare reports and maintain records such as student grades, attendance rosters, and training activity details;
  • Observe and evaluate inmate students' work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement;
  • Document inmate vocational achievements, competencies and contact hours toward completion of certification requirements;
  • Justify accuracy and usage of budget requests;
  • Participate in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments and integrate relevant information into training programs;
  • Commit to teamwork and collaboration with fellow teachers to promote mutual guidance and continuous improvement;
  • Actively contribute to the safety and security of the facility through effective inmate management and promoting conflict resolution and solutions;
  • Encourage and promote critical thinking, self‑discipline and self‑motivation for the inmate student population to provide the skills necessary to reintegrate into society.
Minimum Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in a culinary industry or related field of study AND completed 4,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience in a culinary industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years;
  • OR, in lieu of an Associate's Degree, possession of a current State of Colorado, national, industry, military, or union license/certification appropriate for a culinary industry skill or related trade area (Serve Safe does not qualify) AND completed 4,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience within the last seven (7) years;
  • OR, graduation with a Bachelor's Degree in a culinary industry or related field of study AND completed 2,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience within the last seven (7) years.
