  • Job Description: The Manager, Default Prevention and Graduate Student Outreach, under general supervision, oversees default prevention, financial literacy and outreach activities for the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS). The position represents OSFS in both on-campus and off-campus events. The position works collaboratively with other offices, which have a direct impact on both recruitment and retention of graduate students.

Responsibilities
  • Provides day-to-day case management, advisement, and counseling to graduate students about financial aid programs.
  • Provide holistic approach to counseling and case management for graduate students which includes: affordability, costs of education, financial awareness, campus resources, and payment options.
  • Provides clear, accurate, and personalized support to help graduate students and families navigate the complex financial aid application processes. Coordinate application follow-up activities for new graduate students, including FAFSA completion, application document completion and verification completion with the intent to assist student with early as possible completion of their financial aid application.
  • Have direct contact with graduate students on an appointment, walk-in basis, and over the phone and other communication platforms. Performs outreach (phone calls, e-mails, text messaging campaigns, events, etc.) to current and prospective graduate students who need assistance navigating their bills, financial aid renewal, refunds, etc.
  • Conducts events and outreach/retention programming to engage with students, and to help ensure the on-time renewal of financial aid. Work closely with the leaders of the other areas of the CARE team members and CARE leadership (Academic Advising and Career Services) to ensure that programming and outreach conducted is uniform, cohesive, integrated, personalized to target audiences, and aligned with institutional objectives.
  • Partner with graduate advisors to suggest various academic strategies to help a student meet the financial aid satisfactory academic progress requirements for the retention of aid.
  • Works with students who are delinquent on their student loan payments. Responsible for collecting contact information and responding to student and parent personal, telephone and email inquiries.
  • Assist in ongoing Financial sessions across campus in a way that ensures 100% participation of active school population. Assists in ongoing guidance and assistance to students through meaningful contact and counseling throughout their grace period and loan repayment.
  • Implement approved default prevention activities, which are meant to lower the institution’s Cohort Default Rate. Collaborate with other departments and external agencies as required in managing the institution’s default rate and financial literacy initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively and on a timely basis with student borrowers, lender services and guarantee agencies concerning application status, enrollment status, and default aversion information.
  • Administers and track exit counseling to students that either dropout, are enrolled less than ½ time status, withdraws and/or graduates.
  • Mails monthly correspondence to delinquent students regarding their repayment options. Contact delinquent borrowers and present options for avoiding default. Serves as a backup with Loan Processing, as needed.

Required

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience working in higher education, including exposure to admissions and financial aid or case management in a related field.
