Overview
Position to support Head Start or Early Head Start classrooms in a part-time role. This role involves assisting with education, daily program operations, safety, and collaboration with families and staff.
Responsibilities- Assist in the education and daily program of a Head Start or Early Head Start classroom.
- Assist with implementation and coordination of all Head Start or Early Head Start functions.
- Identify, report, and provide supportive services in cases of child abuse/neglect, notifying the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director.
- Assist in providing educational experiences that promote development.
- Instill in each child a positive self-image and sense of self-worth.
- Develop language arts and related skills for all children.
- Incorporate multi-cultural content, folklore, etc. into the program.
- Ensure all children receive individual attention.
- Be in the classroom before children arrive each morning, unless designated otherwise by supervisor.
- Maintain safe environments in classrooms, playgrounds, restrooms, and equipment.
- Make the best use of volunteer help.
- Assist with child assessments and screenings.
- Assist on field trips and other school functions.
- Assist with home-style meal service for the children.
- Report illnesses or accidents to the Center Coordinator and/or Center Coordinator/Family Specialist.
- Report student absences of three days or more to the Center Coordinator and/or Center Coordinator/Family Specialist.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and in-service trainings; maintain mandated training hours.
- Keep classroom and other areas clean and neat at all times.
- Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control in working with Head Start or Early Head Start children.
- Acquire and maintain up-to-date training/certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Assist with daily activities including staff/child ratio, discipline, and safety.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director.
- High School diploma or GED required; certifications are not applicable.
- Preferred: two (2) years of related experience in a preschool setting.
- Must be able to communicate with children and families with no or limited English proficiency.
- Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic; computer literate.
- Ability to work effectively without extensive supervision; ability to operate office machinery; able to function with diplomacy and tact.
- Handle all student information with confidentiality.
- Report suspected child abuse/neglect to the administrator and law enforcement.
- Abide by Innovative Network of Knowledge policies and procedures; adhere to DFPS and OHS regulations and standards.
- Ability to work as a team player; must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Complete and pass health examination; confirm work eligibility; pass driving history and criminal background checks.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and perform activities requiring bending, kneeling, and engaging with children.
