Salary: $12 per hour
Required Qualifications- Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA overall.
- Must interview with the Tutor Coordinator.
- Math tutors: completed MATH 1314, MATH 1332, or MATH 1342 with a grade of “A” or “B.”
- English tutors: completed ENG 1302 with a grade of “A” or “B.”
- Science tutors: completed at least two 1000‑level lecture/laboratory courses with a grade of “A” or “B”.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
- Must have a referral from a professor.
- Have passed all sections of the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) or TSIA.
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA overall.
- Complete the initial and ongoing training programs, working toward Level 1 CRLA Certification by the end of the tutor’s first semester.
- Read and follow guidelines established in the handbook.
- Become familiar with all services of the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) and related services of other offices to make appropriate student referrals.
- Tutor students individually or in group settings.
- Establish rapport with students and create a friendly, helpful atmosphere.
- Identify the individual needs of students who request assistance and help them obtain the necessary resources.
- Encourage and motivate students to improve their attitudes about college and studying.
- Establish communications with instructors of students as needed.
- Read and comply with administrative policies and respond to questionnaires when requested.
- Help maintain and retain reference and instructional materials.
- Adhere to a predetermined work schedule, keep accurate records of hours worked and student contacts, give as much notice as possible for unavoidable absences, and be punctual in all matters.
- Complete specifically assigned projects, jobs, or tasks.
- Complete necessary forms for program evaluation.
- Meet with supervisors as scheduled.
- Keep accurate records of assistance completed.
- Perform other duties as required.
