Adjunct Instructor, Political Science (Dual Enrollment Focus)
Los Medanos College seeks a part‑time adjunct instructor in Political Science. Candidates must be able to teach fully in‑person in the Pittsburg/Brentwood area and be interested in teaching at both college and high school (dual enrollment) sites. Dual Enrollment sections are currently scheduled at Heritage High School in Brentwood, CA and take place in the afternoons on Tuesdays and Thursdays from August through December.
Initial salary placement for full‑time, tenure‑track positions is based on academic degree(s), units earned, teaching experience and/or qualifying professional experience and ranges from $68,136 to $112,848 per year (up to $132K). Adjunct instructor classroom faculty pay rate is $77.87–128.97 per hour (up to $151.16). Counseling, Librarian, Disabilities Specialist pay rate is $51.37–87.77 per hour (up to $100.65).
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules.
- Create and maintain an environment that emphasizes learning and encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking.
- Evaluate student progress and grading, maintain accurate academic records.
- Meet with students outside of class and maintain professional conduct and ethics.
- Maintain current knowledge in subject matter areas and fulfill professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Master’s in political science, government, or international relations OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, ethnic studies, Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.) OR equivalent. Submit master degree equivalency form if required.
