Department Chair (Political Science and Philosophy)

Angelo State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair of Political Science and Philosophy. The Department Chair provides academic and administrative leadership while supporting the department's commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and student success. The chair will oversee the department's academic programs and daily operations, work collaboratively with faculty to establish departmental priorities, and support the continued growth of the department.

This is a full-time, nine-month faculty position that includes teaching two Political Science courses each semester. The anticipated start date is July 2027.

Provide academic and administrative leadership for the Department of Political Science and Philosophy. Oversee daily departmental operations, including budgeting, course scheduling, assessment, curriculum planning, and resource management. Establish departmental priorities and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, the dean, and university leadership to support departmental goals. Participate in the recruitment, supervision, development, and evaluation of faculty and staff. Support excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and student success.

Represent the department within Angelo State University and the community. Teach two Political Science courses each semester. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of academic administration, budgeting, assessment, curriculum planning, and course scheduling. Ability to provide effective leadership, establish priorities, and build consensus. Ability to supervise and support faculty and staff. Strong organizational, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Ability to foster a collaborative environment focused on academic excellence and student success.

Ph.D. in Political Science. Academic credentials sufficient for appointment with tenure at the rank of Associate Professor. Evidence of administrative experience demonstrating the ability to serve as department chair.

Academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the rank of Professor and at least two years of experience as a department chair in Political Science.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
