Solar Technician II

EDP Renewables North America

Location:

Rosebud, TX

Role Overview: Responsible for the on‑site operations, maintenance, repairs, and replacement of solar field equipment. Includes Lockout‑Tagout (LOTO), tail board meetings, documentation, inspections, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Requires solo work and travel between the Mojave area and Lucerne Valley.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of solar field equipment and plant components (inverters, tracker systems, transformers, substations, switch gear).
  • Identify improvement opportunities and implement changes through proper channels.
  • Read schematics to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems with trackers, PV panels, and other components.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical repairs and replacements per manufacturer requirements.
  • Gather solar performance data and recommend solutions for intermediate routine issues.
  • Report issues beyond skill level for assistance to ensure resolution.
  • Comply with environmental health and safety programs and act as a safety role model.
  • Identify safety gaps and recommend risk mitigation to management.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and data collection; prepare reports.
  • Coordinate with Remote Operations Control Center as needed.
  • Conduct QA/QC inspections per SOP and maintain electronic communications.
  • Facilitate equipment inspections and report findings.
  • Document all work using SAP or equivalent reporting systems.
  • Supervise contractors to ensure compliance with policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 1+ year college or technical school education, or equivalent training and experience.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in solar or renewable energy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, SQL Server, facility management, reporting systems, and diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and electronic testing equipment (e.g., voltage tester, oscilloscope, infrared tester) and heavy equipment (crane, rigging).
  • Experience with solar plant operations (inverters, high‑voltage switching, post‑operational repair).
  • Strong analytical problem‑solving, communication, customer relationship, and technology skills.

Travel: Minimal, as needed.

Behavioral Requirements
  • Driver’s license and motor vehicle operation.
  • Comfort working around low‑ and medium‑voltage equipment.
  • Problem‑solving in variable situations.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to other U.S. sites.
  • Willingness to work overtime on holidays, weekends, and short notice.
  • Availability for 24/7 on‑call scheduling and emergencies.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching for up to 75% of time; 8+ hours of sitting/standing at office.
  • Walk 0.25–0.5 miles per day on unpaved, rough surfaces.
  • Speak, read, write English fluently.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Climb with harness and tools under ANSI Fall Protection Standards.
  • Interpret instructions and maintain safety precautions.
  • Work in adverse weather conditions 25% of time on solar farm sites.
