Description And Requirements
The Renewable Technician III is a senior individual contributor responsible for advanced maintenance, diagnostics, and field execution at utility-scale renewable energy facilities. Solar PV is the primary technology. At facilities with BESS, the technician performs advanced BESS activities within established procedures, qualifications, and authorization limits. The position independently resolves complex electrical, mechanical, communications, and controls issues and performs advanced maintenance on PV modules, trackers, combiner equipment, inverters, batteries, Inverter/PCS equipment, transformers, switch gear, HVAC, fire-protection interfaces, SCADA, balance-of-plant assets, and AC and DC circuits ranging from medium voltage 34.5kV to 12
VDC. The incumbent may lead medium-voltage switching and isolation activities when designated, qualified, and authorized in accordance with site procedures. The role may serve as an assigned equipment champion, provide technical coaching, and support contractor quality without owning daily workforce scheduling. The role works with the Renewable Lead Technician, site leadership, more junior technicians, contractors, OEMs, Technical Services, and remote operations.
Successful performance includes advanced troubleshooting, knowledge sharing, safe restoration, and contribution to reliability improvements.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform advanced preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance and independently resolve complex Solar PV and BESS equipment issues.
- May lead medium-voltage switching, isolation, and restoration when designated, qualified, and authorized in accordance with site procedures.
- Analyze SCADA, alarm, control, communications, electrical-test, and equipment-performance data to diagnose abnormal conditions and verify repairs.
- Coach less-experienced technicians during field execution and demonstrate safe, technically correct work practices.
- Serve as an assigned system or equipment champion and support contractor technical coordination and quality review.
- Participate in root cause analysis, predictive-maintenance enhancements, lessons learned, procedure improvements, and reliability initiatives.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and lead technical field execution during restoration within authorization limits
- Required:
High School Diploma or GED. - Preferred:
Technical School education or Associate Degree in electrical, electronics, instrumentation, industrial maintenance, renewable energy, or a related field.
- Typical
Experience:
4–6 years of progressively responsible renewable energy, power generation, or industrial maintenance experience. - Required:
Demonstrated advanced competency in complex troubleshooting, maintenance execution, and safe decision-making. - Preferred:
Broad qualification across Solar PV, medium-voltage, SCADA/controls, and BESS equipment. - Advancement is based on demonstrated competency, acquired qualifications through company/OEM training, business need, performance that includes Operation Procedures, Work Instructions, Guidelines knowledge and Soft Skills acquisitions rather than tenure alone.

Completion and maintenance of advanced site qualification QEW3 in 6 months from starting in position and authorization requirements. - Required:
Site switching qualification appropriate to assigned duties. - Preferred:
State Electrician License or equivalent technical certification. - Required:
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
- Electrical Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Independently diagnoses and repairs complex AC/DC, medium-voltage, protection, transformer, switch gear, and auxiliary-system issues. - Solar PV Systems:
Performs advanced diagnostics on PV modules, trackers, combiner equipment, inverters, and plant-performance conditions. - Battery Energy Storage Systems:
Performs advanced diagnostics on batteries, Inverter/PCS equipment, HVAC, fire-protection interfaces, controls, and auxiliaries where present. - Safety, LOTO & Switching:
May lead medium-voltage switching, isolation, LOTO, JSA, and permit execution when designated, qualified, and authorized. - SCADA, Controls & Digital Tools:
Troubleshoots basic communications and controls issues, supports SCADA/PPC/EMS investigations, and coordinates diagnostics with OEM and technical teams.
