POSITION SUMMARYThe Automation Specialist is a member of the team that is responsible for providing support through the daily operations of the Targa MBC/Field Automation HMI/PLC hardware/software systems, communication systems, and related process control systems that ensure reliable Complex and Field operations. The role supports 24x7 SCADA and EFM data collection for Targa’s Mont Belvieu system and works closely with measurement, field OPS/Complex OPS, and IT groups to ensure reliable data collection and support of MBC/Field.
The focus of the position is on supporting Targa’s Mont Belvieu assets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide daily operational support for MBC/Field Automation HMI/PLC/Communication systems.
- Work closely with Engineering and Operations to ensure the MBC/Field Automation HMI/PLC/Communication System is being developed to established standards.
- Work closely with O&M groups to ensure the efficient and reliable delivery of fully functional and maintainable systems, and provide expertise for ongoing operational support.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of design standards, templates and tools for the MBC/Field Automation HMI/PLC/Communication Systems.
- Collaborate with internal and external customers to determine operational needs and requirements of MBC/Field Automation HMI/PLC/Communication systems.
- Support and implement MBC/Field Automation HMI/PLC/Communication system projects, including engineering oversight, task management, and implementing lessons learned during project execution.
- Install, maintain and troubleshoot HMI/DCS/PLC, SCADA including HMI, RTUs – Total Flow, Emerson Roc, Bristol Control Wave and associated protocols. PLCs – Allen Bradley all models, General Electric all models and associated protocols (SLC, CIP, SRTP, Modbus, etc.).
- Install, maintain and troubleshoot licensed and unlicensed radio frequency 200MHz to 11GHz radio systems, including antenna structures and associated supporting equipment.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Design/analysis experience in automation design.
- Design/analysis experience with software HMI/PLC/Communication Systems/DCS systems.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- HMI and PLC/DCS Systems Design Engineering with 5+ years’ experience.
- In-depth knowledge and project design experience with HMI Systems and PLC/DCS with end-to-end responsibility.
- In-depth knowledge with Allen Bradley PLCs, Controllogix, Compactlogix, SLC
500, and micrologix
1400. - In-depth knowledge with other PLCs, GE, Modicon, Bristol, Scadapack (a plus).
- In-depth knowledge of industry standard HMI software and platforms – Wonderware System Platform and Rockwell Factory Talk.
- In-depth knowledge of DSC systems, Delta
V, Honeywell, and GE Matrix (a plus). - In-depth knowledge of programming languages, UI design, databases.
- Highly organized individuals capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong technical writing skills for the development of design standards and specifications.
- Ability to collaborate as a team and act as a team leader in a group of cross-functional engineers.
- User knowledge with AutoCAD, Visio, MS Office, MS Project, Excel.
- Knowledge of electrical design, materials and methods installation.
- Vision sufficient to read computer screens, reports and related documents.
- Hearing sufficient to hear verbal instruction and normal conversation levels.
- Strength sufficient to lift, carry and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Endurance sufficient to maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift.
