Role SummaryThe Critical Facilities Engineer I - CFEI provides comprehensive data center white space support for IT infrastructure, monitoring, troubleshooting, reporting, and day-to-day maintenance. Responsibilities include site rounds, event monitoring, and escalation during outages.
Responsibilities- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
- Complete planned and ad‑hoc preventive maintenance work assignments requiring the skill and direction of several engineering, mechanical, and maintenance trades.
- Conduct periodic inspections of building systems, i.e., HVAC, electrical distribution, and maintain mechanical equipment rooms to ensure clean and safe conditions.
- Rapid response, investigation, and management of indoor emergency situations and air quality complaints.
- Have a complete working knowledge of creating, closing, and tracking "work requests" (WR). Initiate or respond to work orders, follow‑up and verify completion of work.
- Monitor performance/note deficiencies of service contractors and recommend changes as necessary.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Support the delivery of data center services including colocation, telecommunications services, and deployment of additional services to customers and internal business systems.
- Act as an operational contact for data center customers, vendors, and carriers as it relates to colocation, connectivity, and network products and services.
- Carry out tasks under the direction of the Network/Engineering Infrastructure Manager and IT Manager necessary to support internal networks, IT infrastructure, computers, electronics, and telephone systems.
- Conduct activities inside IT and telecommunications rooms or cabinets such as installation of IT and network hardware, making or running patch cables, and verifying or testing cable paths.
- Coordinate and oversee access to and work within the facility with third‑party contractors, vendors, and carriers related to structured cabling installation, circuit delivery and equipment installations in IT and telecommunications rooms and customer space.
- Support off‑site points‑of‑presence at remote locations and aid in operations, administration, and maintenance of infrastructure, network equipment, and tasks related to the delivery and support of network services.
- A minimum of 0-2 years of directly related experience in the operation, installation, and maintenance of data center critical equipment and building systems with in‑depth technical understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and control systems.
- High school diploma or GED and two+ years’ experience in electrical systems, refrigeration and/or HVAC, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, chillers, air handling units, and CRAC units.
- Good observation skills and problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks.
- Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly.
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently within various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
- Good hand‑eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors.
