Position Description

Primary purpose:
To operate and maintain corrosion control facilities and implement corrosion control activities for pipelines and storage facilities, ensuring compliance with company policies and federal/state regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all internal and external corrosion control activities and pipeline integrity.
  • Record and analyze cathodic protection data (pipe‑to‑soil, rectifier, bond, road casing, insulated effectiveness) using Allegro data recorder and provide recommendations.
  • Perform troubleshooting of rectifier units, remote monitoring, interference testing, and oversee cathodic protection installations.
  • Supervise contractors on new ground‑bed installations and close‑interval surveys.
  • Monitor pipeline conditions through potentials, visual inspections, coupon examinations, and in‑line inspection data.
  • Conduct industry tests, measurements, and surveys to ensure efficient operation of cathodic protection equipment.
  • Manage internal corrosion control program, including liquid sampling, coupon collection, chemical analysis, bacterial testing, and data entry into Kinder Morgan TSIMS.
  • Maintain field internal corrosion equipment and set corrosion inhibitor injection rates per Corrosion Support Group instructions.
  • Witness and document internal inspections of pipeline sections and facility piping.
  • Collect data to define internal corrosion threats and evaluate mitigation effectiveness.
  • Participate in annual review meetings and regulatory inspections.
  • Document all work related to regulatory compliance and operating procedures.
  • Undergo drug screen and background check prior to employment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years corrosion control experience.
  • Completed educational courses in all phases of corrosion (internal, external, atmospheric).
  • Experience operating corrosion instrumentation and understanding environmental/safety aspects of coating projects.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems.
  • Proficient with MS Office, operating systems, company software, and technical systems.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Experience with PCS‑CPDM compliance software.
  • Proficient with electronic test instruments.
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Maintain all applicable qualifications, certifications, and progression requirements.
  • Site‑specific technical training as applicable.
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Accountability, adherence to schedules, and detail orientation.
  • Ability to pass Operator Qualification (OQ) requirements.
  • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Self‑motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Capability to operate chemical injection and pressure‑access equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Safety‑first mindset and active participation in safety programs.
Physical Demands
  • Capable of completing required training under all applicable agencies.
  • Work outside in varying weather, perform physical labor, climb tanks, and work in confined spaces.
  • Visual acuity for computer screens and measuring devices, hearing for alarms.
  • Extended periods of sitting for administrative duties.
Working Conditions
  • 24‑hour on‑call duties, long hours, weekends, nights, holidays.
  • Carry cell phone and respond 24/7.
  • Potential overnight travel and unsupervised work.
  • Exposure to crude oil products and confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift 20‑50 lbs, climb, and work in severe weather.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AMPP certification (CP‑2 and Internal Corrosion).
  • Proficient with PCS‑CPDM software.
  • Knowledge of AMPP standards.
  • Experience in all phases of corrosion control and pipeline integrity.
  • Experience with crude oil pipeline internal corrosion control programs.
  • Knowledge of company policies, TRRC, and DOT regulations.
  • Safe handling practices for liquid products.
