Part‑Time Fire Inspector
Come be a part of a growing team in a growing community here at the City of Azle! The City of Azle Fire Department is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Part‑Time Fire Inspector. This role involves conducting fire and life safety inspections, enforcing city ordinances, and supporting fire investigations within the community.
Rate of Pay: $32.00 per hour
Hours: Maximum of 19 hours per week – Flexible schedule
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Duties and Responsibilities- Performing fire and life safety inspections of commercial and public buildings for code compliance.
- Conducting building and site plan reviews for new construction, including automatic fire suppression and detection systems.
- Assisting with fire and arson investigations to determine cause and origin.
- Investigating routine complaints of fire hazards.
- Preparing various reports on operations, activities, inspections, and investigations.
- Consulting with contractors, engineers, architects, developers, and property owners regarding construction projects and activities.
- Assisting with public education and public relations activities.
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: Five years of experience in fire prevention, fire/arson investigation, or fire inspection is preferred.
- Required:
- Valid Texas Class C Driver's License (Class B preferred).
- Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Fire Inspector Certification.
- Preferred Experience:
- Five years of experience in fire prevention.
- Five years of fire/arson investigation experience.
- Five years of fire inspection experience.

Certifications:- Texas Commission on Fire Protection Structure Firefighter Basic Certification
- Basic Arson Investigator Certification
- Basic, Intermediate, Advanced or Master Peace Officer Certification
- Texas State Certified Emergency Medical Technician
- Fire Code
- Life Safety Code
- Rules and Regulations of the State of Texas
- Code of Criminal Procedure, Penal Code, and Rules of Evidence
- Fire prevention, fire/arson investigation, code enforcement, hazardous materials, and the policies and procedures of the city.
- Computers and software relevant to the position.
- Reading: Ability to read general correspondence, building and construction plans, manuals, maps, and information with construction terminology and abbreviations. Ability to read and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Math: Ability to perform general math calculations and fire ground calculations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- Writing: Ability to write general correspondence, request forms, and reports.
