The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing violations of city codes and ordinances and to ensure the health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens of Brady.
Essential duties and functions may include the following. Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and to be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Enforce City ordinances and codes, including but not limited to:
- High grass and weeds
- Accumulation of junk or unsightly matter
- Unsanitary conditions
- Junked and abandoned vehicles
- Dangerous and substandard structures
- Zoning, signs
- Fences
- Stagnant water
- Illegal dumping
- Lighting and glare violations
- Make premise and structure inspections to determine compliance with and violations of City codes and ordinances
- Conduct investigations of reported code violations, including interviewing tenants/occupants, neighbors, contractors, etc. to evaluate the validity of the complaint
- Refer code violations outside of the division’s enforcement to the appropriate department or agency
- Coordinate with City staff to notify property owners or violators of any action taken, including possible fines, fees or charges for work performed
- Coordinate the improvement or remedy of the violations with the property owners, violators, City authorized third parties and/or other City departments
- Document all actions taken by using City issued equipment (i.e., digital camera, computer) to ensure information is readily available
- Assist with cases for hearings and trials, which may include providing witness testimony
- Provide customer service by attending City events and special meetings to educate the public about City codes and City ordinances regarding code enforcement
- Complete reports and maintains all documentation on inspections completed
- May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
- Certified Code Enforcement Officer Licenses, or the ability to obtain within one (1) year
- Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration, personnel administration, supervision, continuous improvement, customer service and public meeting and hearings.
- Ability to write clear and concise reports and to independently handle administrative details.
- Knowledge of computer data entry and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to deal diplomatically and tactfully with customers.
- Ability to perform physical labor in inclement weather.
- Texas Motor Vehicle Operators License.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Code Enforcement Officer Licenses (or ability to obtain in 1 year)

Indoor and outdoor environments; work independently; drive from site to site; incumbents may be exposed to noise, dust, and inclement weather conditions. - Physical

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in field environment; to stand, stoop, reach, bend, kneel, squat, climb ladders, and walk on uneven terrain, loose soil and sloped surfaces; to lift and/or move objects weighting up to 25 lbs.
