Medical Technologist (MT) - Sign-on Bonus Available!

DESCRIPTION:

The MT at the staff level is responsible for the performance of a wide variety of laboratory tests, routine and complex, on body fluids and substances to provide data for diagnosis or treatment of diseases. This position requires knowledge in all areas of the laboratory and the ability to make sound professional judgments. Acknowledges and responds appropriately to the hospital’s customer relations philosophy, including the five fundamentals of the AIDET program.

Time

Percentages and Accountabilities

• 25% - Demonstrates ability to perform testing accurately and efficiently in all areas of the laboratory.
• 25% - Demonstrates the ability to function in all areas of the laboratory.
• 20% - Demonstrates ability to act as General Supervisor when need arises.
• 15% - Demonstrates familiarity with all hospital and departmental safety standards.
• 5% - Demonstrates patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
• 5% - Demonstrates knowledge and skill in meeting age and/or handicapped patient’s needs.
• 5% - Demonstrates personal and professional attributes.
• Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Position Qualifications

• Minimum Education: High school diploma, Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from a four-year college or university. Must be a certified Medical Technologist and/or registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or equivalent or eligible.
• Experience: One to two years related experience and/or training. Computer experience is required.

Physical Demands

Must be able to work from 4 to 16 hour shifts with a normal shift of 8-10 hours. Will stand/walk 4 or more hours of normal shift; bend, squat, stoop, reach above shoulder level. Push and pull equipment or supplies weighing up to 100 lbs. and lift 40 lbs. Must be able to read and write English. Requires good manual dexterity.

Working

Conditions

Exposed to loud noise, hazardous materials, blood borne pathogens. Must be familiar with all safety rules and regulations.

Work Schedule

Normal work schedule:
Monday through Friday with shifts rotating between days and evenings. All techs required to provide call‑back coverage on a rotating basis and must be within 30 minutes of the hospital during call‑shift. Weekend coverage may be required. Routine schedule will be specified at hire but may include any shift if needed for adequate coverage.
