Your Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process, as applicable to the areas of need in speech/language.
  • Administer appropriate test instruments to students who are referred for consideration of eligibility as speech impaired (SI) and write reports to reflect the findings.
  • Participate in the ARD/IEP committee meeting to select appropriate goals and objectives in the areas of speech and language to remediate areas of weakness identified in standardized testing and classroom performance.
  • Supervise up to 4 Speech Language Pathologist Assistants to develop and implement speech/language therapy that reflects the individual education plan (IEP) for students. On a case-to-case basis, direct therapy might need to be provided to particular students or in particular situations.
  • Maintain written records of the performance of students over time to document progress toward mastery of IEP goals and objectives.
  • Assist classroom teachers in making the needed accommodations and instructional support for students with speech/language weaknesses.
  • Use technology, including augmentative devices, to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Report on a regular basis, as determined in the ARD/IEP, on the progress of students toward mastery of
  • their IEPs.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of achievement through formal and informal
  • Oversee SLPAs so they create opportunities for students to practice targeted speech/language skills in the therapy sessions and in other environments, such as the campus and home.
  • Support the mission of school district by serving as a positive role model for students.
  • Create a supportive therapy environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Participate in staff development activities that improve job-related skills and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with school network assessment team and special education teachers to schedule, prepare, and facilitate ARD meetings
  • Document services according to network procedures and complete SHARS billing requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.

You

Required
  • Master’s degree of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university
  • Licensed (license equivalent) by the state of Texas as a speech/language pathologist, or American Speech Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) equivalent or Certification by TEA as a speech therapist.
  • Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of a fingerprinting background check.
Preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • CCC certification
  • 5+ years of related experience which may include the following:
  • Working in an educational setting
  • Working within an Agency that provides services
  • Working with school-aged and pre-school aged children, including observation and supervised practice, as required for licensure
