Department: Hillcrest Pathology

Shift: 7am to 7pm 12‑hour shifts

Specific Details: Sorts, labels and records patient specimens. Set up specimen, material, and equipment in preparation for Medical Technologist to perform testing in Microbiology.

The Lab Tech 2 receives and/or processes specimens, performs clerical checks and support functions. May perform phlebotomy.

• Conduct routine laboratory procedures with limited scope for error.
• Sort, label and record patient specimens; set up specimen, material and equipment for testing.
• Operate centrifuge, simplex timers, cell washer and other laboratory equipment.
• Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies.
• Maintain effective communication and working relationships with all laboratory personnel, other disciplines, and external customers.
• Participate in laboratory projects and educational activities.

• Phlebotomy skill for all age groups.
• Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions.
• Skill in the use of computers and related software applications.
• Knowledge of safety and infection control standards.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
