Job Description

The Sabine Pass Port Authority (SPPA) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Port Director to provide executive leadership and operational oversight of one of Texas' historic and strategically located port authorities. This role combines day-to-day management with long-range planning and high-level stakeholder engagement across local, state, and federal partners.

The Port Director reports directly to the SPPA Commission and is responsible for aligning port operations with the SPPA Master Plan, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting economic development within the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all operational areas: finance, HR, port and marina functions, safety, infrastructure, and compliance
  • Prepare and oversee the Authority’s annual budget and financial strategy
  • Serve as the Authority’s lead representative to community stakeholders, public agencies, industry partners, and media
  • Oversee execution of the SPPA Master Plan, including infrastructure and business development initiatives
  • Ensure full compliance with maritime, environmental, and public sector regulations
  • Direct contract negotiations, procurement, and vendor management
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and results-driven organizational culture
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in marine operations, port administration, public-sector leadership, or military command
  • Strong knowledge of public budgeting, finance, accounting, and regulatory environments
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; professional certifications or equivalent experience highly desirable
  • Demonstrated leadership in stakeholder engagement, policy advocacy, and team development
  • Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Physically able to perform site visits, board vessels, and manage field operations as needed
