Foundry Technician

Pay Range: $25-$30/hour + Per diem (if you qualify)

Job Summary

The Foundry Technician supports safe and efficient foundry operations by operating equipment, preparing materials, assisting with casting and finishing work, inspecting parts, and supporting basic maintenance. This position requires strong safety awareness, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to recognize and report mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate foundry equipment and tools safely according to work instructions and production requirements.
  • Prepare molds, cores, materials, and work areas for casting operations.
  • Assist with pouring, shakeout, grinding, cleaning, finishing, and movement of cast components.
  • Inspect parts for visible defects and report quality concerns.
  • Monitor equipment for abnormal noise, heat, vibration, wear, leaks, electrical faults, or unsafe conditions.
  • Assist maintenance with mechanical checks, basic troubleshooting, repairs, setup, adjustments, and return-to-service activities.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, grinders, hoists, forklifts, and shop equipment safely.
  • Maintain clean work areas and follow all PPE, lockout/tagout, safety, and environmental requirements.
Mechanical and Electrical Skills

The ideal candidate has hands-on mechanical aptitude and practical awareness of industrial equipment used in foundry or manufacturing environments.

  • Recognize wear or failure indicators involving bearings, belts, chains, gears, pulleys, pumps, motors, conveyors, guards, seals, couplings, and fasteners.
  • Assist with basic repairs and adjustments, including tightening hardware, checking tension, aligning components, cleaning equipment, and preparing replacement parts.
  • Identify hydraulic and pneumatic concerns such as leaks, damaged hoses, low pressure symptoms, sticking cylinders, or abnormal movement.
  • Recognize and report electrical issues involving switches, sensors, fuses, relays, disconnects, breakers, wiring, motors, and control panels.
  • Use or assist with basic test equipment such as a multimeter when qualified or directed.
  • Communicate equipment symptoms clearly to supervisors, mechanics, electricians, and maintenance technicians.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in foundry, manufacturing, fabrication, machining, maintenance, or industrial production preferred.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, lifting devices, and production equipment safely.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to recognize common machine problems such as vibration, noise, overheating, misalignment, worn belts, bearing noise, and lubrication issues.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety procedures, production tickets, and inspection requirements.
  • Dependable attendance, strong work ethic, and ability to work well in a team environment.
Safety Requirements
  • Wear required PPE and follow all company safety policies.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and never bypass guards or safety devices.
  • Work safely around hot materials, molten metal, moving equipment, pinch points, dust, noise, and forklift traffic.
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, injuries, spills, equipment concerns, and quality issues immediately.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Forklift, rigging, hoisting, crane, or material handling experience.
  • Electrical safety, industrial maintenance, vocational, welding, fabrication, hydraulic, pneumatic, or millwright-style experience.
  • Experience using measuring tools, inspection tools, or maintenance work order systems.
