Field and Service Tech

Job Description

Position Summary

The Field & Service Tech is a dynamic, hybrid role responsible for supporting the in-house manufacturing of automated machinery and traveling nationwide to perform on-site field service at customer plants. This position operates under a high-trust, autonomous model. You will spend time in the manufacturing facility assisting with assembly, material handling, and shipping prep, while also serving as the primary technical representative for equipment integration, preventative maintenance, and emergency repairs on high-speed industrial packaging and bagging lines.

Key Responsibilities

Field Service & Client Relations

• Travel to customer production plants nationwide to execute equipment assembly, integration, and emergency repairs.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on automatic bagging machinery, conveyor matrices, and electronic weight systems.
• Serve as a field representative to optimize client throughput and minimize system downtime.
• Educate plant operators on proper care and standard operating parameters to maximize machinery lifespan.

Technical Diagnostics & Overhaul

• Trace and identify structural or software control anomalies within specialized industrial automation environments.
• Read and execute modifications using complex, multi-page electrical schematics.
• Troubleshoot issues involving AC/DC industrial currents, heavy-duty electrical control panels, and motor control circuits.
• Service complex mechanical assemblies, gears, gearboxes, and pneumatic drive cylinders, utilizing standard welding procedures for custom field modifications.

In-House Manufacturing & Assembly Support

• Assist skilled machinery builders and welders with basic assembly tasks using hand tools and prepping work areas.
• Monitor automated testing phases to identify equipment malfunctions or defects prior to shipment.
• Package completed bagging scales, conveyors, and parts for secure transit, ensuring items are accurately tagged and documented.

Logistics, Safety, & Administration

• Load, unload, and safely move raw manufacturing materials and finished machinery using basic warehouse equipment.
• Maintain internal records, including generating service tickets, customer work-logs, expense reports, and timecards accurately and on time.
• Adhere strictly to company safety procedures, wear required PPE, and maintain a clean, organized shop and field workspace.

Job Qualifications

• Experience: Proven experience in industrial mechanical assembly, electrical troubleshooting, or field service.
• Travel: Willingness and ability to travel nationwide frequently for customer support.
• Technical Skills: Ability to read electrical schematics; basic welding experience is a plus.
• Autonomy: Proven ability to work efficiently with minimal managerial oversight.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to handle heavy industrial materials and operate basic warehouse/hand tools safely.
