It is the mission of Dripping Springs Methodist Church to go into all the world and make disciples for Jesus Christ by creating a culture of community and engaging the family in the journey of discipleship.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Communications Director will create, organize, plan, and implement effective communications messages and strategies for/ with church and community audiences. The individual will partner with church and ministry leaders in order to convey their information about their ministries to the appropriate audiences.
STATUS
This is a full-time, in person position;
Sunday-Thursday, 8:30am-4:30pm
SUPERVISION
This position reports to the Senior Pastor
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a multi-channel communication strategy driven by the church’s mission/vision/values.
- Unify and align everyday messaging with the church’s voice, goals, and priorities.
- Attend various special services and events to take photos and capture community life within the church.
- Partner with ministries, meeting with them and creating communication plans to mobilize their specific audiences to respond.
- Guide a team of volunteers to implement effective communication strategies.
- Ensure high-quality and high-impact communications to reach both internal and external audiences.
- Responsible to ensure the church’s live-stream is operating correctly for the different worship services.
To accomplish the above responsibilities, the Director of Communication needs to:
- Have a seat at the table with the Pastoral, Discipleship, and Support teams to be informed of leadership priorities/decisions, with an invitation to speak into communications and marketing strategies and issues.
- Advocate for creative and clear communications in all settings.
- Have time to proactively plan and work with ministries to support/guide their communications efforts.
- Develop and oversee processes and tools that foster effective communication internally and externally.
- Have a strong understanding of communications strategy, writing/editing, graphic design, and social media, with a high value on audience engagement.
- Not be heavily involved in other areas of leadership or support.
- Own and manage the church’s brand and identity.
- Keep social media/website engaging and aligned with the digital ministry plan.
- Participate in the creation of digital and print content.
- Capture and share stories of life change and impact.
- Measure and report engagement across various platforms.
- Carry out day-to-day tasks of facilitating communications/marketing.
- Work with church and ministry leaders to develop communications processes and define priorities to create an environment in which messages can be communicated clearly, creatively, and effectively.
- Work with church and ministry leaders to define, develop, and effectively communicate messages to church-wide and specific audiences.
- Solicit information from church and ministry leaders to organize and plan communications messages in a timely manner.

- Weekly bulletin
- Weekly in-service slides
- Announcement videos
- Weekly livestream
EDUCATION/SKILL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications/Marketing or equivalent preferred
- Experience in similar position in a medium-sized church (250-400) or business environment preferred
SPECIFIC SKILLS, GIFTS, TALENTS
RELATIONAL:
Sit at the table with leadership and act as an advocate for creative and clear communications. Connect with ministries on a personal face-to-face and regular basis to understand their ministries’ needs and wants.
COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:
Must be extremely comfortable working with computers. Ability to take on basic design work.
WRITING:
Adapt written text to match the medium through which it is being communicated. Communicate clearly and effectively using the written word.
