POSITION SUMMARY The Licensed Vocational Nurse provides skilled, technical nursing care to patients according to a plan of care established by a Registered Nurse. Assists the Registered Nurse to assess the nursing care needs of child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Gathers pertinent patient care data using all available resources.
QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited school of nursingBLS required.
ACLS and PALS recommended
Maintains current licensure with Texas Board of Nursing1-2 years Acute Care or ER Setting preferred PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS To adhere to proper dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
To complete annual education requirements.
To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
To report to work on time and as scheduled
To wear identification while on duty.
To represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
To comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.

Demonstrates clinical knowledge and judgment necessary for patients’ nursing care.

Works under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse May participate on department and hospital committees
Supervises patient care provided by Nurse Aides BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN EXPOSURE CLASSIFICATION High potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.

Physical Requirements Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and or fingers, talking and or hearing and seeing.
Position requires light to moderate work with 50 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry.
Full range of body motion including handling and lifting heavy objects and patients.
Pushing and pulling heavy objects.
Environmental Conditions To work irregular hours including call hours if applicable.
To work in a physically demanding, high-stress environment.
JOB DUTIES/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Responsible for the physical assessment of patients daily, as assigned, within the time frames established by the hospital. Implements interventions within the scope of practice as defined by the State Board of Nurse Examiners that are appropriate to the age-specific needs of child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Safely and accurately administers medications commonly used in patient care units.
Provides health education and procedural teaching for child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and their families/caregivers.
Provides appropriate and safe interventions in emergency situations commonly experienced by patients.
Provides basic patient care procedures for children, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients on the medical-surgical unit and in the Emergency Room, as nursing assignment dictates.
Documents nursing care to maintain an accurate and legal medical record.
Operates specialized equipment as required to meet patient needs.
Assists in maintaining a safe environment for patients.
