Under the general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, performs general labor and maintenance of City Parks, park facilities, lawns, grounds, street medians, and other cultivated areas in the City, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive working relationship with staff, coworkers, elected officials, supervisors, citizens, business, and community groups
- Plants and waters grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
- Sprays lawns, trees, and shrubs with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides
- Cuts lawns, trims and edges around walks, flowerbeds, and walls
- Prunes trees and shrubs to shape and improve growth; removes damaged leaves, branches, and twigs, and rakes and collects leaves
- Cleans and maintains all grounds, including ditches and culverts, removing litter when necessary
- Shovels snow from walks and driveways; spreads salt on public streets and sidewalks
- Maintains (repairs, paints, replaces) fences, gates, walls, walks and outbuildings
- Sharpens and maintains tools including weed cutters, edging tools, and shears
- Makes minor repairs on equipment including lawn mowers, spreaders, and snow removal equipment
- Availability to work overtime when needed
- Must be able to wear City approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- Work well under pressure, prioritize projects, and be detail/deadline oriented
- Effective oral and written communications
- Adheres to departmental, personnel, and safety policies and procedures
- Operate various types of landscape equipment including but not limited to; mowers, leaf blowers, edgers, trimmers, chainsaws, brush hogs, spreaders, and snow removal equipment
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
- Valid Texas Driver License
- Pesticide Applicator License (must be acquired within first year of employment)
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; must be able to handle, grasp, feel and reach with hands and arms; must be able to communicate effectively. Employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, confined spaces; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. In all cases appropriate procedures and PPE will be utilized.
