The Animal Services division is seeking Animal Services Officers responsible for enforcing animal and rabies control ordinances, policies, and licensing requirements.

Supervision is provided by the Lead Animal Services Officer.

• Patrol streets and respond to calls to pick up stray and deceased animals.
• Maintain the animal shelter daily in accordance with state law.
• Issue citations for violations of animal control laws.
• Testify in municipal court regarding violations.
• Keep all departmental records up to date per state requirements.
• Provide educational materials to citizens on health, licensing, and fee requirements.
• Understand the necessity of euthanasia and be willing to perform it.
• Be available for after-hours, holiday, and emergency calls.
• Track stray animals independently.
• Follow safety guidelines when performing duties.
• Investigate nuisance complaints from citizens.
• Maintain all animal services equipment in good condition.
• Work under close supervision, exercising independent judgment within established guidelines, and keep supervisors informed.
• Operate department vehicles as needed.
• Uphold public trust and strive for excellence in service, enhancing community quality of life.
• Act respectfully and professionally at all times.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid Texas Driver’s License within 60 days of hire, and a satisfactory driving record. Certification as a basic Animal Services Officer from the Texas Department of Health must be obtained within one year. Completion of NIMS training courses is required after hire.

Physical requirements include exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50-100 pounds frequently, or 20-50 pounds constantly. Activities involve standing, sitting, walking/running, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision, hearing, talking, foot controls, and driving. Exposure to chemical and biological hazards is possible.

The primary work environment is outdoors. Shift work is not required, but call-out availability is necessary.
