Water / Wastewater Distribution Maintenance TechnicianThe City of Jacksboro is seeking qualified applicants Water / Wastewater Distribution Maintenance Technician. Applicants must complete a City of Jacksboro application and will be required to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test and a background check to be considered for employment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate a backhoe and other related equipment used in the construction and maintenance of water and sewer lines; repair leaks, make water/sewer taps; repair and unclog sewer lines.
- Perform manhole inspections; manhole repair or replacement; collector main repair or installation; operate dump truck for hauling, excavation and filling ditches.
- Read and log meter readings.
- See, read, speak and understand written or verbal instructions; communicate effectively and courteously with other city employees and the public.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Subject to after-hours call out for emergency situations.
- Serve on rotating standby for after hours and weekend calls.
- Serve as backup support for Streets Department and other departments, and perform other tasks/duties as assigned by Supervisor.
PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE JOB
- Use of good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly.
- Hear clearly when working around equipment and in traffic.
- Ability to lift and carry up 50 pounds, 80 pounds and 100 pounds and place it on a surface up to 32” high.
- Ability to lift pipe up to 40 pounds from ground to overhead to place on truck rack approximately 72” high and ability to lift from truck rack and place back on the ground.
- Ability to lift up to 125 pounds from floor to knuckle height.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from knuckle to shoulder height.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds from shoulder to overhead height.
- Ability to shovel dirt and asphalt for extended periods of time.
- Ability to climb a manhole ladder, in both the up and down directions.
- Ability to kneel, squat, stoop and bend for extended periods of time while working.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather.
- Ability to withstand some exposure to dust, odor, electrical, mechanical and toxic hazards, using proper safety precautions.
