Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC) invites applications for the Maintenance Specialist II position. This role supports the Plant Maintenance Department by performing routine and preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and renovations on facilities and residential homes. You will work at the San Angelo State Supported Living Center located at 11640 US HWY 87 N, Carlsbad, TX.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting, etc.) following recognized codes and safety regulations.
• Inspect, adjust, repair, and renovate facility buildings, residential homes, and stationary equipment, including adaptive equipment and wheelchair ramps.
• Operate heavy machinery such as forklifts, backhoes, and other motorized equipment when required.
• Record and maintain accurate work order and project documentation.
• Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with team members and other departments.
• Assist with disaster response, continuity of operations, and other agency duties as assigned.
• Adhere to safety and environmental procedures and conduct work under moderate supervision.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

• Regular attendance, potentially including rotating or overtime schedules.
• Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs across various trades.
• Use hand and power tools, testing, and safety equipment.
• Maintain records of work orders, projects, and material requisitions.
• Train colleagues on proper repair and inspection techniques.
• Participate in disaster response or COOP activations when necessary.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

(KSAs):

• Knowledge of building maintenance systems: plumbing, HVAC, sanitation, refrigeration, electrical.
• Knowledge of industrial safety, fire, and safety regulations.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
• Ability to conduct preventive maintenance and interpret drawings and schematics.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• High school graduate or GED.
• Relevant work experience in masonry, carpentry, painting, or equivalent maintenance trades.
• Valid Texas driver’s license (out‑of‑state license may be accepted with certified driving record).
• Availability for flexibility, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Able to pass background checks, drug screen, and other pre‑employment screenings.
