Registered Nurse and Residential Manager
QUALIFICATIONS- Requires a High School degree or GED. An associate’s degree or higher in a related field is a plus.
- Experience working for a child Residential setting, Child-Placing Agency or other related job experience is a plus.
- Minimum 2 years' work experience, preferably with teenagers, within the last 5 years.
- Knowledge and understanding of psychotropic medications are considered a plus.
- Experience with behavioral services is considered a plus.
- Monitor and assist with residents' basic daily needs, including living arrangements, personal hygiene, meal preparation and nutrition, clothing and personal items, transportation, and other support as needed.
- Maintain familiarity with each resident’s individual medical plan.
- Monitor resident activities to ensure compliance with Texas Minimum Standards for Residential Settings, Hope Haven of East Texas policies and procedures, residential contract standards, and agency guidelines.
- Oversee medication compliance, ensuring safe administration practices especially for residents on psychotropic medications.
- Conduct weekly medication audits to detect and correct dispensing errors.
- Ensure timely medication refills and dispensing.
- Collaborate with therapists, healthcare professionals, and care staff to maintain appropriate medical care.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts related to medical service delivery.
- Complete incident reports and all required electronic documentation promptly and accurately.
- Report suspected abuse or neglect immediately to supervisors, licensing agencies, and law enforcement, as appropriate.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and mandatory trainings (minimum 50 hours annually), which may include evenings or weekends.
- Support team communication and coordination across disciplines.
- Carry out additional responsibilities or assignments as delegated by the Nursing Services Manager.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Requires basic understanding of a field of knowledge that involves the ability to define problems, collect data, and establish facts.
- Ability to be certified in CPR & First-Aid, Administration and Behavior intervention which includes physical restraint of children.
- Ability to identify potential behavior situations, such as aggression, suicide ideation, anger escalation and have the knowledge and confidence to redirect and de-escalate behaviors as necessary.
- Ability to recognize differences in sound, such as voices/noises that are loud and playful instead of angry or combative; and ability to differentiate tones and volume in conversations to determine mood and response to a person or persons.
- Ability to work under moderate supervision.
- Ability to exercise patience, good judgment, and confidentiality; to observe and make accurate assessments of situations with available information.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and in stressful situations; ability to respond in crisis situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, other employees, and the public.
- Present deep interest in working with young people, as well as a desire to understand how to create positive youth development.
- Acknowledge the unique Statement of Faith mission of Hope Haven of East Texas and respond appropriately to the cultural differences among the agencies service population.
- Must pass the Hope Haven Background Check requirements.
- Must be physically fit and capable of lifting forty (40) pounds.
- Must be able to stay alert during late hours or overnight.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have a driver's record which is within the guidelines of the insurance underwriter.
