- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other university personnel and students.
- Assist the Assistant Director for Residential Living with delegated tasks and project suggestions that enhance the residence hall community.
- Serve as communication link between residents and staff, monitoring events or conditions that could affect residents, floors, halls, or the university.
- Know and support residents in the assigned area by daily interaction, meeting their needs, and facilitating their adjustment to university life.
- Refer residents to appropriate university personnel and encourage positive interactions and respect among residents.
- Collaborate with other staff, including Office Assistants and Maintenance Assistants, fostering a friendly and cooperative environment.
- Act in the Assistant Director’s absence when designated; apply procedures and protocols for hall and office operations.
- Assist with on‑call duties, maintain hall security, and respond promptly to emergencies and disciplinary matters.
- Provide confidential peer counseling, listen to residents, offer accurate information or referrals, and involve supervisors when necessary.
- Maintain communication with custodial and maintenance staff, teach residents how to report concerns, conduct inspections, and complete required reports.
- Model professionalism by conveying a positive attitude, acting as a role model, avoiding gossip, and taking pride in the RA position and Sul Ross State University.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, trainings before halls open, and closing weekend work for both fall and spring terms.
- Work approximately 5 hours per week at the front desk, and engage in an on‑call rotation during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Maintain full‑time student status (≥12 hrs undergraduate, ≥9 hrs graduate) and seek written approval if holding additional employment >10 hrs per week.
- Full‑time student in good standing with the university.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for undergraduates or 3.0 for graduates over the preceding long semester.
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student who has lived on campus at Sul Ross State University for at least one semester (or transfer students must have lived on campus at their previous institution for one semester).
- Experience in planning and familiarity with campus resources. li>

Experience with primary responsibilities listed above.
