Technical Accountant - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
We are seeking a technically astute Technical Accountant to partner with our leadership team, strengthen financial discipline, and support scalable expansion in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
This is a hands-on, audit-focused accounting role ideally suited to a qualified accountant with strong technical expertise and a passion for financial reporting standards, complex transactions, and external audit processes.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will lead all core accounting, compliance, and financial control activities within an SME setting. Acting as the in-house technical expert, you will ensure full compliance with UK GAAP / FRS 102, drive robust financial controls, and manage the statutory audit process end-to-end.
Your focus will be on delivering high-quality financial information, strengthening audit readiness, minimising adjustments, and ensuring smooth external audits in a growing IT business environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead preparation and review of statutory financial statements in full compliance with FRSUK GAAP and Companies Act requirements
* Act as primary contact for external auditors — coordinate audit planning, fieldwork, queries, and completion
* Research and apply complex technical accounting matters, including:
* Revenue recognition (IFRS 15 principles adapted to UK GAAP for SaaS/subscription models, licences, implementation services)
* Contract accounting, deferred revenue, and multi-element arrangements
* Prepare high-quality audit schedules, working papers, and documentation with strong audit trail and evidence
* Strengthen internal financial controls, policies, and procedures
* Manage year-end processes including provisions, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, leases (UK GAAP), and impairment reviews
* Provide technical input on R&D tax credit claims (SME scheme), Patent Box (where applicable), and other innovation incentives
* Support group reporting, consolidation adjustments, and intercompany accounting
* Monitor changes in accounting standards, tax legislation, and FRC requirements; advise management on impacts
* Assist with VAT, corporation tax computations, and compliance filings alongside external advisors
* Contribute technical oversight to monthly management accounts
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
* ACCA / ACA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent) with strong post-qualification experience
* Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP / FRS 102
* Experience managing external audit processes end-to-end
* Experience managing a small finance team and external stakeholders
* Strong understanding of UK tax fundamentals (corporation tax, VAT, R&D relief)
* Experience working with large volumes of data
* High attention to detail with strong analytical capability
Desirable
* Experience with Net Suite ERP
* Experience with in an IT, SaaS, or subscription-based business
* Exposure to group consolidations
