Job Title: Consultant

Job Summary: Lerch Bates is seeking a Consultant who will identify, plan, direct, and oversee all aspects of rehabilitation projects. The role primarily focuses on managing multiple projects, providing solutions, and delivering recommendations to clients. The Consultant will conduct technical reviews, mentorship, and training for specialists, engineers, and other team members, acting as a technical liaison across the practice.
What You’ll Do- Conduct on‑site investigations and field reviews of existing buildings.
- Review background documentation to determine original construction detailing and identify risk areas such as water penetration, air leakage, and condensation.
- Focus on critical aspects of structural engineering, building enclosures, commercial roof systems, waterproofing systems, and exterior facades including masonry.
- Prepare reports and presentations documenting existing conditions and recommending repairs for defects or damage.
- Conduct peer reviews of findings for direct reports and peers.
- Participate in and/or lead meetings that verify scope and complexity with owners, developers, architects, adjustors, and other consultants.
- Coordinate with internal designers, drafters, engineers, and consultants for the preparation of construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Conduct drawing, detail, and specification reviews.
- Review shop drawings and submittals for compliance with project intent, building science, and engineering principles.
- Conduct on‑site quality assurance observations to review construction for conformance to contract documents and industry standards.
- Prepare site visit reports.
- Provide oversight of technicians and specialists, offering technical guidance and reviewing site visit reports for consistency.
- Assume full managerial responsibility for all aspects of the project: scope, schedule, design, budget, quality, staff, execution, and budgets.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, developing client relationships and exploring opportunities for service enhancements.
- Proactively keep clients and stakeholders informed of project status and changes.
- Perform project tracking and quality control, including regular status reviews and facilitation of meetings.
- Manage time, budgets, resources, and schedules effectively.
- Ensure personal utilization and that direct reports consistently meet established goals.
- Manage direct reports, including training, mentoring, reviewing reports, managing schedules, and conducting reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline:
Civil, Structural, Construction, Architecture. - P.E./AIA or another relevant licensure.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the architecture, engineering, and/or construction industry.
- Strong understanding of residential, commercial, or institutional building design and construction.
- Knowledge of building enclosure design principles.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information and build rapport with clients, contractors, and stakeholders through written & verbal reports and presentations.
- Technical competency and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and co‑workers.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Flexible, responsive, and confident multi‑tasking skills.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple deadlines, and accommodate shifting priorities.
- Ability to lead and contribute to the team in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality, organization, meticulous attention to detail, and consistency in work product.
- Previous experience with contractor roles in structural, building envelope, commercial roofing, and/or waterproofing projects.
- Previous experience with project accounting and budget management.
- Proficiency in one or more design/modeling software programs (AutoCAD, Bluebeam®, Revit, WUFI, THERM, etc.) – preferred.
