Salary Range: $46,587 - $74,496 (Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.)
Job DescriptionThe Optometric/Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for providing direct patient care to patients in the Optometry or Ophthalmology departments. The assistant will ensure patient safety, comfort, and compliance with legal, organizational, and professional standards.
Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care for optometry and ophthalmology patients.

- Education:
- Required:
High School diploma or GED from an accredited program. - Preferred:
Graduate of an accredited Ophthalmic Assistant program (for OA II).

Minimum 1 year as a Medical Assistant or Optometric/Ophthalmic Assistant, or 6 months if graduated from an accredited program. - OA I:
At least 1 year of work under an Ophthalmologist with certification, or graduate of an approved vision technology school. - OA II:
At least 1 year and 6 months of experience in ophthalmology. - Preferred: OA I – 2 years under an ophthalmologist; OA II – Five years’ experience; OA – 1 year in an optometric setting.

Skills:- Required:
OA – Ability to use selected patient equipment; OA I – Proficient with NCT, auto refractor, gross visual fields, slit lamp, tonometry, IOL master, OCT/HRT, etc.; OA II – Proficient with computers, multiple applications, typing 30 wpm, advanced diagnostic testing. - Preferred: OA – NCT, Autorefractor, computer equipment, lensometer, K readings; OA I – Scribe, tonopen, Goldman VF, fundus photography, fluorescein angiogram, immersion IOL; OA II – EPIC, slit lamp, etc.
