Key Responsibilities

The assistant underwriter helps keep programs and brokerage running smoothly by managing workflows, supporting underwriting decisions and ensuring consistent follow‑through on active accounts.

  • Review submissions for completeness, gather underwriting information, organize documents and participate in early‑stage risk evaluation through applications, supplemental forms, loss runs and exposure details.
  • Prepare quotes, coordinate with brokers to secure needed information and assist with binders, policies, endorsements and renewal documentation.
  • Coordinate inspections, audits and claims‑related materials as part of day‑to‑day support for underwriting and account activity.
  • Maintain secure, accurate, and well‑organized files across all platforms.
  • Enter rating data and underwriting information for both new business and renewals to support accurate quoting and policy issuance.
  • Provide support for accounting activities tied to underwriting work, including invoicing, collections, reconciliations, bordereau updates and surplus lines tax data entry.
  • Monitor internal reports for accuracy and compliance to ensure the department stays aligned with underwriting standards.
  • Communicate professionally and timely with brokers to support strong working relationships and smooth workflow.
  • Contribute to the growth and refinement of Tropolis insurance programs through research, organization and underwriting support.
Background and Experience
  • Strong attention to detail and disciplined work habits.
  • Commercial insurance experience, ideally including wholesale with 2+ years wholesale and 3–5 years of P&C experience.
  • Strong technical capabilities and readiness to learn new systems and underwriting tools.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable organizational abilities and the ability to manage work independently.
  • A steady approach to deadline‑driven or high‑volume periods.
  • Problem‑solving instincts, accountability and a collaborative mindset.
Education

A bachelor’s degree is desired.

License and Certification

An active Property and Casualty License is required.

Technical Requirements

Applied Epic experience is desired.
