Assistant Librarian/Assistant Professor (Electronic Resources Librarian)
Nicholls State University, located in Thibodaux, Louisiana, serves approximately 6,500 diverse students, including traditional and nontraditional learners. Since 1948, it has been the only university serving the Bayou Region, offering over 100 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.
Role DescriptionThe Electronic Resources Librarian supervises the Serials department and manages the Library’s electronic and print subscriptions, which account for a large portion of the Library’s budget. The position monitors usage statistics for all titles and collaborates with the Library Director and Technical Services Department. This role requires strong time‑management, communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills, as well as a high level of technical computer proficiency.
The individual works independently, establishes priorities for the Serials department, monitors annual title increases, and recommends renewals to the Library Director. Responsibilities also include updating and maintaining access to electronic resources, resolving issues related to the acquisition and renewal of databases and print subscriptions with vendors and publishers, coordinating initiatives on OER, web/digital accessibility compliance, and scholarly communication, and integrating emerging technologies such as AI.
As a tenure‑track librarian, the position also fulfills librarianship duties including liaison, collection development, and instruction to the College of Business.
- Working knowledge of the management and acquisition of electronic resources and print subscriptions, including licensing practices.
- Working knowledge of the delivery of research assistance and Library instruction.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of library patrons, vendors, and staff.
- Knowledge of trends and issues affecting academic libraries, especially regarding affordable learning, AI, and accessibility.
- Minimum education:
MLIS or MLS from an ALA‑accredited program.
- Experience with and knowledge of current best practices in acquisition and management of electronic resources and print serial subscriptions.
- Experience working with vendors and publishers.
- Experience managing employees in a library setting.
- Experience using and publishing OER.
- Experience with reference and instruction in a library setting.
- Working knowledge of Alma and OCLC.
- Fluency in the application of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Fluency in the application of AI trends and AI‑driven technologies, especially in higher education.
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a business discipline or work experience in a business‑related field.
