Machine Operator – Packing

Permanent, site‑based position in the Packing department at our manufacturing site near Thirsk.

You will be responsible for packaging extruded kibble produced by the on‑site extruder into specific bags for customers. The position works as part of a shift rotation within one of four cells, each equipped with automated machines and robots that assist in bagging, sealing, wrapping, and stacking. Completed bags are sent to the warehouse.

The Dupont schedule follows a four‑week cycle. Colleagues alternate between day (05:30–17:30) and night (17:30–05:30) shifts, often within the same week, working three or four consecutive days followed by one to three consecutive days off. One block of seven days off occurs within each four‑week period. The role is 42 hours per week (24/7 operation) and is paid hourly (£15.07 per hour, including shift allowance) with monthly payment on the last Friday.

• Ensure the highest level of quality by carrying out quality checks at hourly intervals and recording the information on paper‑based documents.
• Set up and operate machines throughout the shift.
• Follow production guidelines and pack products correctly.
• Monitor the effectiveness of machinery and equipment.
• Follow the IPN ‘Clean As You Go’ policy to maintain hygiene standards.
• Promote a people‑safe culture, comply with policies and procedures, and report any safety observations or plant damage through the appropriate channels.

• Good standard of education and demonstrated literacy and numerical skills.
• Clear communication and reporting in English.
• IT literate and able to record data on factory computers.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Live within 30 miles of YO7 3HE
  and own transport.
• Physical ability to lift up to 25 kg and stand on feet for long periods.
