Job Overview

This role is a full‑time, on‑site position requiring physical presence at the District 3 Operation Center in Thomaston, GA. The job may necessitate working holidays, weekends, and special events due to 24/7/365 operations. The site is not accessible via public transportation; reliable transportation is required.

Responsibilities
  • Answer all calls received by the 511GA system regarding stalled vehicles, malfunctioning signals, debris, and other roadway issues.
  • Provide outstanding customer service while responding to all inbound calls.
  • Collaborate with GDOT personnel on signal and maintenance issues across state routes and interstates in 31 counties.
  • Detect and manage traffic incidents, directing calls to appropriate resources such as CHAMP, local police, GSP, ATMC, and GDOT.
  • Enter and track all incidents in ATMC’s Navigator system.
  • Maintain construction event records throughout Georgia, excluding Metro Atlanta.
  • Perform record keeping, equipment checks, data gathering, and update manuals and contact lists.
  • Coordinate with in‑field CHAMP operators and GDOT personnel to assist with accidents, stalls, debris, fires, and other incidents.
  • Monitor operational awareness of all field CHAMP operators on shift.
  • Ensure radio communications comply with department and FCC rules and use proper 10‑codes.
  • Use available information to adjust traffic signal schedules as needed.
  • Disseminate traffic incident and signal information via dynamic message signs, social media, email, and phone.
  • Obtain and report incident status from multiple agencies.
  • Manage incidents and signal information per standard operating guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience in a call center or extensive customer service background.
  • Prior experience in positions requiring heavy telephone, radio, and computer usage.
  • 911 operator or dispatching experience preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize duties.
  • Proficiency in dispatching field personnel via radio.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including proper English, diction, grammar, and spelling.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new computer programs and interpret technical information.
  • Team player who works well independently and with diverse personalities.
  • Positive, professional image and strong organizational skills.
Requirements & Conditions of Employment
  • Special motor vehicle record check required; satisfactory driving records necessary for company or personal vehicle use.
  • Pre‑employment drug screen and, if hired, ongoing drug testing for safety positions.
  • Criminal background check as part of the hiring process; unsatisfactory results result in ineligibility.
  • Applicants must provide documentation establishing identity and employment eligibility within three days of hire.
