SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the direction of the school principal and the Director of Special Education the special education teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for implementation of lesson plans that allow creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.
QUALIFICATIONS- Must hold a valid State of Georgia Teaching Certification in the following fields

- Experience working with students within the inclusion, small group and individual settings
- Experience working with students with social/emotional needs
- The Special Education Teacher must comply with all procedures and meet all required special education deadlines.
- Hold annual IEP and Re-evaluation Data Review meetings.
- Report student data.
- Ensure students with disabilities receive appropriate services.
- Maintain and document contracts with parent/guardians.
- Use progress monitoring to report progress on the student's IEP goals; and
- Attend required special education meetings.

- Displays an understanding of the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of the age group.
The teacher plans using state and local school district curricula and standards, effective strategies, resources, and data to address the differentiated needs of all students.
- Analyzes and uses student learning data to inform planning.
- Develops plans that are clear, logical, sequential, and integrated across the curriculum (e.g., long-term goals, lesson plans, and syllabi).
- Plans instruction effectively for content mastery, pacing, and transitions.
- Plans for instruction to meet the needs of all students.
- Aligns and connects lesson objectives to state and local school district curricula and standards, and student learning needs.
- Develops appropriate course, unit, and daily plans, and is able to adapt plans when needed.
The teacher promotes student learning by using research-based instructional strategies relevant to the content to engage students in active learning and to facilitate the students’ acquisition of key knowledge and skills.
