Community Safety Officer

The City of Thompson invites qualified applicants to submit a resume for consideration for the full‑time position of Community Safety Officer.

• Enforce bylaws passed by Council and appointed statutes.
• Assist and work cooperatively with the RCMP and other stakeholders using a collaborative enforcement model.
• Enforce prevention, intervention, and education of applicable legislation with an emphasis on the downtown area.
• Conduct patrols within the community.
• Investigate and respond to by‑law complaints.
• Ensure resolution either by education and redirection or ticketing.
• Explain and interpret policies and regulations to the public and Administration.
• Maintain documents and files.
• Prepare notices, summonses, and other legal documents.
• Maintain the confidentiality of all information.

• Superior interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on effective communication and conflict resolution.
• Excellent oral and written communication; focus on customer service and public relations.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional manner and make sound decisions under stressful public conditions.
• Knowledge of issues facing hard‑to‑serve populations, including homelessness, addictions, crime prevention, and public safety.
• Understanding of the social roots of crime.
• Knowledge of community resources.
