We are currently seeking a reliable and hardworking Loading Shovel Operative to join our clients team in Middlesbrough. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a loading shovel, alongside carrying out a variety of general yard duties to support daily site operations.
This is a hands-on role requiring a strong work ethic, commitment to health and safety, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a loading shovel safely and efficiently in accordance with site procedures.
- Load and unload materials into vehicles, hoppers, stockpiles, and processing equipment.
- Assist with the movement, sorting, and storage of materials around the yard.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks and report any defects or maintenance requirements.
- Ensure stockpiles are maintained safely and accurately.
- Keep work areas clean, tidy, and hazard-free.
- Carry out general yard duties including housekeeping, sweeping, litter picking, and basic labouring tasks.
- Support other site operations as required.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and colleagues to ensure smooth site operations.
- Valid NPORS Loading Shovel Operator Qualification.
- Previous experience operating a loading shovel in a busy industrial, recycling, aggregates, waste management, or similar environment.
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to perform physically demanding yard duties.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible approach to work.
- Good communication skills.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Experience with in recycling, waste management, quarrying, or aggregates sectors.
- Telehandler, forklift, or other plant machinery certifications.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Safety-conscious and responsible.
- Hardworking and proactive.
- Able to work in all weather conditions.
- Team player with a positive attitude.
- Capable of working under pressure and meeting operational targets.
