What Is the Apprenticeship?

This Government‑approved Level 2 Nuclear Health Physics Monitor Apprenticeship provides a solid foundation in the nuclear industry with a focus on radiation protection and contamination control.
Program includes:

  • Block release studying at MTC Training – Oxfordshire Advanced Skills Culham Campus
  • On‑the‑job experience at your allocated NRS site
  • Mentoring from experienced Health Physics professionals
  • Training in real‑world nuclear environments where safety is paramount
Location

NRS Oldbury Site, Oldbury Naite, Oldbury‑upon‑Severn, BS35 1RQ

Working Hours

Monday to Thursday, 07:25 – 17:00 (37 hours/week) with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in monitoring radiation dose rates and contamination levels
  • Use technical instruments to take readings and record findings
  • Support contamination control and safety checks on‑site
  • Learn about nuclear regulations and industry safety protocols
  • Work collaboratively within a safety‑critical team environment
Entry Requirements & What We’re Looking For

We're looking for motivated individuals with a passion for science and safety.

Must:

  • Be 18 or older by 3rd August 2026
  • Have 5 GCSEs (grades 9–3 / A–D) including Maths and Science

We're also looking for:

  • ✅ Enthusiasm for science and nuclear safety
  • ✅ A meticulous and detail‑focused mindset
  • ✅ Strong problem‑solving skills
  • ✅ Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • ✅ A willingness to learn in a technical environment
