The Role

The position interacts with Lumen customers professionally and courteously, remotely or in person, to review and discuss service order requirements. Persons in this position will be expected to evaluate customers’ service needs and suggest additional services. The role installs, repairs, and tests residential and small business telecommunication services and broadband products and services, enabling wireless and wired networks on company-approved modems and routers, and connecting wires, cables, and hardware in customer premises and facilities.

This is an entry‑level position; no prior experience required except willingness to work outdoors. The ideal candidate will have some customer‑service and related experience.

Main Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, repair, remove, rearrange, program, test, and troubleshoot residential/small business products and services, including POTS, HSI, networking, and fiber from the cross‑connect or serving terminal into the customer’s premise.
  • Set up, reconfigure, maintain, and troubleshoot the customer’s wireless/wired home network, including wireless modems, LAN peripherals, printers, IPTV, and other devices linked into the home network.
  • Complete splicing connections on new and existing cable, fiber, wire, and connect wires and cables to terminals, attaching or detaching hardware to wires and cables. Cabling electronic components such as routers, computers, TVs, stereo systems, and home entertainment systems; installing and repairing inside wiring and jacks.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and specialty tools, including test equipment (e.g., VFL, ONX, OTDR) and/or laptop computer to install or repair products/services and confirm proper functioning.
  • Read and interpret customer service orders, repair tickets, technical drawings, maps, blueprints, diagrams, etc., and perform specified work.
  • Complete work within a specified timeframe with high quality, adjusting assignments or schedules to meet changing priorities.
  • Interact with customers professionally via telephone and on premises, reviewing service order requirements, evaluating needs, and suggesting additional services.
  • Confirm and update trouble reports or services, review billing information, answer questions about equipment and services, and verify proper installation and repair through testing.
  • Identify and explore additional revenue generation opportunities.
  • Work well with others to achieve common goals and foster a cooperative climate, while also working independently in the field with little supervision.
  • Use laptop for email, ticket review, and running test routines.
  • Work with telecom color‑coded wires and cables and basic electricity related to telecommunications.
What We Look For in a Candidate
  • Ability to work varying shifts and hours, including possible mandatory overtime, weekends, and holidays. May be assigned to work out of town for varying lengths of time.
  • Valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to climb and work at elevations above 18 feet and use ladders or poles.
  • Adherence to company safety policy and equipment weight requirements when working ajars.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces.
  • Physical strength to lift objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to perform job activities outdoors in different weather conditions.
  • High school diploma.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience.
Compensation

Minimum hourly rate: $23.28 Maximum hourly rate: $34.92
