This Risk Management Technician position complements the District's concurrent recruitment for a four-hour-per-day Benefit Specialist position. Applicants interested in an eight-hour-per-day assignment should apply for both recruitments. Each position will be evaluated separately; however, the District may appoint one candidate to both positions if they are determined to be the most qualified through the merit system examination and selection process. An employee appointed to both positions would be assigned eight hours per day and would be eligible for applicable benefits.
- Provides information and general assistance to employees, various agencies, and departments regarding risk management and safety activities, processes, policies, and procedures; assists in resolving routine problems and risk management/workers compensation related form completion.
- Processes worker's compensation claims; assures compliance and completion of required documentation; prepares and maintains a variety of files, logs, and records; inputs, maintains, and tracks data utilizing a computerized spreadsheet related to areas of assignment including but not limited to risk management liability claims, employee injuries, vehicle accidents, and risk management records.
- Compares and reconciles claims administrator records with District payroll records to assure timely and accurate benefit payments and identifies and resolves discrepancies, as needed; coordinates appropriate accounting for temporary disability payments with District HR and Payroll staff and claims administrator; schedules required investigations and other meetings with employees, injured workers, witnesses and supervisors. Prepares reports as necessary.
- Reviews work restriction/limitations stipulations from medical certifications received for employees and reviews such information with designated supervisors/administrators – seeks information on return-to-work status and apprised all parties, including Human Resources, Payroll and claims adjustor, as necessary.
- Compiles data for Federal and State reporting requirements as directed; collects, reviews, and researches information for and completes, maintains, and processes a variety of workers compensation related reports, forms, logs, records, files and other documents, including accident reports, claim forms, wage statements, and OSHA accident logs; verifies that financial and confidential record and files are properly maintained.
- Assists in processing property and liability claims, CAL-OSHA complaints and citations, including creating claims folders, investigating claims as assigned, obtaining documents and working with claims administration providers.
- Schedules formal accommodation meetings when it is determined that an employee has permanent work restrictions; sends out correspondence to employees with information pertaining to accommodation meetings; gathers pertinent information for accommodation meetings; creates accommodation folders for accommodation meetings and preserves documents.
- Orders and maintains stock for all department supplies, State and federal posters, pamphlets, and other documents.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of auditable records, reports, lists and files related to claims, benefit eligibility, settlements, expenditures, occupational health and safety, insurance, worker's compensation and other activities;
- Prepares a variety of materials such as meeting agendas, correspondence, bulletins, handbooks, newsletters, documents and exhibits, and preserves records.
- Schedules, arranges, and coordinates meetings, training sessions and presentations; arranges for refreshments, coordinates facility or room set-up and clean-up.
- Assists in responding to court orders, subpoenas, and Public Records Act requests related to risk management kept records;
- Attends a variety of meetings, workshops, and conferences to maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, rules, and regulations related to assigned risk management functions.
- Prepares purchase orders for safety related equipment, coordinates delivery with departments, updates the Safety Credit budget.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
High school diploma, or an equivalent, supplemented by college level course work in business, accounting, benefits, human resource management, insurance or related field AND two years of work experience performing fiscal record management related to business accounting, employee benefits…
