Maintenance & Planning Supervisor – Thunder Bay Sawmill

Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Full‑time Permanent.

Domtar’s flagship 300 million board‑foot sawmill is seeking a Maintenance & Planning Supervisor to oversee maintenance operations of a state‑of‑the‑art planer mill. The role reports to the Planer Superintendent and supervises maintenance personnel and external contractors, maximizing quality and production while minimizing downtime and costs.

• Ensure highest safety standards for all maintenance operations.
• Provide leadership, technical support and coaching to trade personnel and peers while maintaining positive employee relations.
• Collaborate with Production and Maintenance to plan, schedule and supervise maintenance and capital work as the mill transitions from project construction to daily operations.
• Use Maintenance & Supply Chain best practices with the CMMS for work order processing, purchase requisitions, weekly schedules, preventive maintenance and equipment database updates.
• Perform periodic equipment inspections to assess repair or adjustment needs.
• Supervise subcontractor repairs/projects, ensuring quality work and adherence to deadlines.
• Plan and control expenditures within the department operating budget.
• Verify availability of parts, materials and special tools required for execution.
• Ensure compliance with internal and external health and safety policies, procedures and regulations.

• Mechanical, Electrical Engineering Technologist, trades certification or related industry experience.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of equivalent experience with demonstrated progression in leadership roles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Team‑oriented, communicates with all levels of the organization and adapts quickly to change.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem‑solving skills with keen attention to detail while seeing the big picture.
• Proficient with MS Office, CMMS and solid computer skills.
• Self‑motivated and committed to safety & reliability excellence.
• Good working knowledge of sawmill and planer mill equipment.

• Monday to Friday work schedule.
• Competitive salary (CAD $74,000–$92,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience) and annual bonus incentive plan.
