Asset Protection Specialist

The Asset Protection Specialist (APS) is primarily responsible for preventing financial loss caused by theft and fraud, organized retail crime, and supporting safety and environmental program compliance in their assigned store(s). The APS will drive execution of the company’s internal and external theft and fraud strategy and utilize several tools to minimize loss to the company. The APS must demonstrate integrity at all times, respond to and support key AP and operational concerns of all associates and remain focused on store-specific business objectives.

• Communicate with APSS (Asset Protection Specialist Supervisor) and MAPM (Market Asset Protection Manager) on internal and external investigations and physical security within the store.
• Maintain an open channel of communication with store management and all associates.
• Partner with store management to drive AP issues.
• Drive a ‘Shrink Elimination’ culture within the store environment.
• Participate in the In Focus program.

• Detain and interview persons apprehended for shoplifting in accordance with local laws and company procedures.
• Drive execution of store safety programs and validate compliance with company standards and policies, including environmental compliance.
• Check physical security of the Home Depot facilities to prevent and deter theft/fraudulent activity.
• Write reports documenting apprehensions and recoveries, preserve evidence, and interact with law enforcement.
• Represent the Home Depot in a professional manner throughout all court-related procedures.

• Meet all Home Depot and AP training and certification requirements.
• Create associate awareness for shrink issues related to internal and external theft, operational deficiencies, and physical security.
• Effectively support the AP Team Plan.
• Effectively utilize CCTV and exception reports and audit the Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems.
• Test building alarm system.
• Conduct surveillance when required.
• Set challenging objectives and communicate clear expectations.
• Demonstrate a clear bias for action and a sense of urgency on priorities.
• Take ownership of the successes and failures of initiatives and processes.
• Understand and use financial indicators/metrics to measure performance.
