Indigenous Student Counsellor

Embrace a rewarding role at the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board as a Temporary Indigenous Student Counsellor. Provide cultural and academic support to Indigenous students from September 2026 to June 2027.

This 1.0 FTE temporary position is designed for post-secondary educated individuals in human services with Indigenous Studies focus. As a Counsellor, you will help students navigate their academic journey, serve as a vital bridge between schools and families, assist new students in transitioning, and support their emotional, physical, and spiritual growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide academic support to individual and small groups

• Liaise between parents/guardians and the school

• Support Indigenous students new to the school

• Assist in developing life skills for holistic well-being

• Advocate for cultural understanding and respect

Requirements:

• Post-secondary education in human services, Indigenous Studies preferred

• Knowledge of First Nation cultures and histories

• Identification as First Nation, Métis, or Inuit community member

• Experience with SafeTALK Training

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
