SalarySupport Salary Scale Grade S08: $23.85 per hour; salary placement will follow the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System. Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is non‑exempt from overtime.
Key Responsibilities- Provide instructional support for students based on the classroom teacher’s lesson plan.
- Create a conducive learning environment and utilize classroom time effectively.
- Employ a variety of teaching techniques and instructional resources to implement the approved curriculum.
- Demonstrate fair, firm, and consistent behavior toward students and promote self‑discipline.
- Implement effective classroom management following the established school discipline policy.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and positive interpersonal relations with students, parents, staff, and community.
- Guide the learning process toward achievement of school system goals and objectives by following school board policies and administrative procedures.
- Assist administration and other staff members in reaching the mission for the school by applying ethical standards in professional relationships.
- Supervise students in a variety of school settings.
- Maintain appropriate records and monitor proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Ensure regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal.
- Reassignment between work shifts may occur at any time in accordance with the negotiated agreement.
- Communicate in a manner that enhances productivity and builds respectful relationships across the organization.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, Building Manager, or their designee.
- Associate’s degree or 60 college credits.
- Experience working with children.
- None.
- Knowledge and use of culturally responsive practices.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to adapt lesson plan to specific classrooms.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Drive applications.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Capability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone and when addressing groups.
- Travel to school and other local locations, as well as state meetings, sometimes with little notice.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Spend long hours sitting.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Possess manual dexterity to grasp, handle, manipulate, and/or feel objects and use office technology.
- Move with sufficient mobility around the work area.
- Read and comprehend printed materials, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects.
- Hear and comprehend conversations in person and on the telephone, identifying sounds up to twenty feet.
- Occasionally climb or balance.
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift fifteen pounds.
- Education/Training/
Experience:
Possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited institution; demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication skills; experience working as a substitute teacher in a K‑12 setting; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. - Certification/License:
Para Pro Assessment Test; possess MSDE‑issued professional teacher certificate with the appropriate content endorsement. - Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Bilingual (Spanish); knowledge of educational instructional tools/applications; familiarity with FCPS policies, goals, and programs.
