Position: Learning from Experience Manager

Are you passionate about driving continuous improvement, strengthening organisational learning, and making a real impact in a high‑hazard, highly regulated environment? This is a unique opportunity to take a central, influential role as the focal point for investigations and Learning from Experience (LFE), shaping how insight is captured, shared, and embedded across the organisation.

In this role, you’ll lead the development of a strong learning culture, ensuring that lessons from incidents and performance trends translate into meaningful, lasting improvements. You’ll work at the heart of the business, engaging with senior stakeholders, regulators, and teams across the organisation to enhance safety, performance, and operational excellence.

NRS Dounreay is currently seeking a skilled professional to join the team in a key role leading investigations and Learning from Experience (LFE), supporting continuous improvement across the organisation.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will lead the organisation’s approach to investigations and Learning from Experience (LFE), setting standards and managing end‑to‑end processes that ensure high‑quality reporting, meaningful analysis, and effective knowledge sharing. You’ll monitor and enhance the quality of investigations, driving actionable insights through trend analysis and ensuring that improvement actions are proportionate, effective, and embedded. Acting as a central coordinator, you’ll manage governance forums, develop and deliver training, and ensure LFE is communicated clearly and consistently across all levels.

You’ll also engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, to benchmark performance and continuously evolve a best‑in‑class investigations and learning framework.

  • Manage LFE and investigation processes, ensuring high‑quality outputs and effective learning
  • Drive trend analysis and continuous improvement to prevent recurrence and enhance performance
  • Design and deliver investigation training while coordinating governance forums and reviews
  • Engage stakeholders, regulators, and the wider estate to embed learning and share best practice
What You’ll Bring

You are a highly effective communicator with a strong analytical mindset and a passion for driving improvement in complex, regulated environments. With a solid academic background in science, engineering, or business, you bring hands‑on experience in investigations and Learning from Experience processes, ideally within a high‑hazard industry. You understand the importance of proportionate, evidence‑based decision‑making and have the confidence to influence at all levels.

Your ability to lead, coach, and engage others will be key to building a strong learning culture and ensuring lessons translate into real‑world impact.

  • Degree (or equivalent) in science, engineering, or business with relevant experience
  • Proven experience in investigations, root cause analysis, and Learning from Experience
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation in regulated environments
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with leadership experience preferred
