Engineer Mechanical

A vacancy has arisen within Infrastructure Programme for a Mechanical Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your engineering expertise to a diverse range of projects that are critical to Dounreay's decommissioning mission. Working within a highly skilled and collaborative environment, you will play an important role in managing and delivering engineering activities, solving complex technical challenges and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

The successful candidates will be responsible for specifying, coordinating and managing a broad range of mechanical engineering activities across the project lifecycle. You will develop and monitor engineering plans and procedures, produce technical specifications, identify practical solutions to operational challenges and provide technical governance to support successful project delivery. Working closely with regulators, stakeholders, contractors and multidisciplinary teams, you will ensure engineering activities meet the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance while supporting the delivery of key site objectives.

• Develop, implement and monitor engineering plans, procedures and technical specifications to support safe and effective project delivery.
• Provide technical oversight and governance, ensuring engineering activities comply with legislative, regulatory and quality requirements.
• Identify resource requirements, manage engineering activities and support the successful execution of project and contract work.
• Work collaboratively with stakeholders, regulators and multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges and deliver practical engineering solutions.

We are seeking motivated and capable engineers with a strong mechanical engineering background and a passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions. You will bring practical design, operational or maintenance experience within an industrial environment and be confident working alongside engineers from other disciplines to solve complex problems. Strong communication skills, sound judgement and a proactive approach are essential, along with a commitment to safety, compliance and continuous improvement.

Experience with in the nuclear industry would be advantageous, but we also welcome applicants with transferable skills from other highly regulated sectors.

• HND in Engineering or equivalent qualification aligned to Engineering Council standards for Engineering Technician.
• Relevant mechanical engineering experience, with knowledge of industrial mechanical systems and plant.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Sound knowledge of industrial safety principles and a willingness to develop additional technical and safety-related responsibilities relevant to the role.
