Assistant/Associate Professor of Anatomy & Physiology

Heidelberg University invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Anatomy & Physiology. This is a three‑year appointment with the possibility of extension.

Roles and responsibilities
  • Teach a full‑time teaching load (24 credit hours/year) including lecture and laboratory courses in anatomy and physiology, cadaver prosection, and other relevant courses for majors and non‑majors.
  • Oversee the Barlow Body Donor Lab, managing operations, supervising students’ prosection, and handling funds and donor relations.
  • Employ innovative, collaborative teaching methods to promote knowledge, laboratory techniques, critical thinking, and communication competency.
  • Attend school and university faculty meetings.
  • Advise students on course scheduling, progress toward degree and career goals, and undergraduate research projects.
  • Contribute to school and interdisciplinary initiatives, including recruitment, retention, and curriculum development.
  • Participate in university activities such as committee work, extracurricular activities supporting student success, and professional development.
  • Perform other essential duties as outlined in the Faculty Manual.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Physiology, Anatomy, or related field; ABD considered with degree completion before start; exceptional candidates with a master’s degree will be considered.
  • College‑level teaching experience (lecture and laboratory). Two years preferred.
  • Background sufficient to teach upper‑level courses in Anatomy & Physiology.
  • Ability to conduct or supervise research with undergraduates.
  • Experience with instruction and research using cadavers and small live animals.
  • Familiarity with small liberal arts institutions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student‑centered active learning and engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work in online learning environments.
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as needed.
