Molecular Laboratory Technician II

Perform molecular diagnostic laboratory testing in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs). Testing materials include animal specimens that may contain a variety of infectious diseases.

• Conduct diagnostic and surveillance testing, including handling specimens, nucleic acid extraction, performing PCR, real‑time PCR, digital PCR, gel electrophoresis, PCR product cleanup, and next‑generation sequencing. The testing process also includes data interpretation and reporting of test results.
• Assist in maintenance of lab equipment, supplies, and inventory.
• Assist research projects including planning and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and reporting results.
• Participate in required proficiency tests.
• Train and coach new employees and visiting students/scholars.

• Extended periods of sitting at laboratory bench.
• Some light lifting.

• High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.

• Knowledge of molecular biology, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, real‑time PCR, gel electrophoresis, and next‑generation sequencing.
• Ability to work in a team setting and provide general assistance to other personnel.
